I am concerned about weaknesses in the elementary and middle school math curricula currently offered at Cedar Rapids Community Schools. I am also concerned about the performance of our children on tests to measure the success of the curriculum.

I request that the District change to an elementary math curriculum that is based on the explicit teaching of math concepts, algorithms, and mastery of math facts. In addition, I request that the District choose a curriculum that has proven successful in other parts of the country. Examples include:

Saxon Math

Sadlier/Oxford: Progress in Mathematics
